Week of May 19-23

Hello!  This will be the final post for this year. 

This week we will turn in and celebrate our poetry books on Monday.  Tuesday through Thursday we will work with the teleplay "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street."  Friday will be our field trip.

(Note:  We will clean out lockers during 7th period on Thursday.)

Homework:

Mon--read at home
Tues--read at home
Wed--read at home
Thurs--get all of your writing projects out of your backpack to sort through
Fri--none

READING EXPLORATORY
This week we will read an excerpt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Monday, and work with non-fiction articles the rest of the week.  There will be no homework.

Week of May 12-16

Hello!  We are continuing our poetry unit.  The finished poetry booklet will be due on Monday, May 19th. 

HOMEWORK:

All students should be working on the final copies of their poems.  (Final copies must be written in ink using best handwriting or they may be typed.)  A page giving the specific requirements for the Poetry Booklet will be given out in class on Tuesday.  All students should also be continuing to read outside of English class for at least 90 minutes per week.

READING EXPLORATORY

We will be reading an excerpt from Roald Dahl's memoir Boy this week.  There will be a homework page on Tuesday (Double Negatives WS) and Wednesday (Illustration WS).

Week of May 5-9

Hello!  This is the big MAP test week.  Please help us by making sure your student is here, well-rested, fed and on time all week.  Thanks so much!

In English this week the students will be working with their groups to create an original story incorporationg the items given to them in a "prop" box.  We will read the stories aloud in class on Wednesday.  On Thursday, we will begin our poetry unit.

HOMEWORK:

Reminder--all students should be reading at least 90 minutes per week outside of English class and recording it on the reading log.

Mon--log due tomorrow; have MAP essay tips page signed
Tues--read at home; stories due tomorrow
Wed--field trip info given out today
Thur--be getting a folder with brads
Fri--finish final copy of poem; grade print-out given today


READING EXPLORATORY
This week we will work on making inferences and using context clues.  On Friday, the students will be given a progress report that will need to be signed and returned.  There will also be a WS of homework on Friday.
