Week of Feb. 24-Feb. 28

Hello.  Students will be choosing a topic for their argument essays on Monday.  We will spend Tuesday and Wednesday in the computer lab looking for research and information on their topics.  Students may need to spend extra time at home reading about their topics so they can be an "expert."  We will begin writing the essays on Thursday, however the final copy will not be due until Tuesday, March 4th.

IMPORTANT REMINDER:  LAD Fair projects are due on Thursday.  This has to be completed entirely at home; we will not spend class time on the projects.  Students were given a hand-out with project choices on Monday, February 10th, and have had daily reminders to be working on the project.

HOMEWORK:
Mon--reading logs due tomorrow; LAD Fair project due on Thurs
Tues--work on research for argument essay; LAD Fair project due on Thurs
Wed--work on research for argument essay; LAD Fair due tomorrow!
Thurs--read at home
Fri--have a printed copy of the first draft of your argument essay

READING EXPLORATORY
This week we will focus on using context clues.  There will be no homework.

Week of February 18-21

Hello!  This week we will begin with literature and poetry, and then we will move on to note-taking focusing on quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing.

Homework:
All students should be reading their own self-selected reading books and recording their pages on their reading logs.  Logs are distributed and collected on Tuesdays. (A minimum of 90 minutes of reading per week outside of English class is expected.)

Tues--decide on LAD Fair project and get started.  (Projects are due on Thursday, Feb. 27th.)
Wed--final copy of poem in ink or typed due tomorrow
Thurs--read at home
Fri--read at home

READING EXPLORATORY
 This week we will work on subject/verb agreement in grammar, and we will focus on making predictions with support while reading.  There will be homework (worksheets) on Thursday and Friday.

Week of February 10-14

Hello!  This week the students will be completing their DBQ essays comparing samurai to knights.

VERY IMPORTANT--Book Talk is on Wednesday.  All students must have read every word of their books by then and be ready to participate in the group discussion.

Homework:
Mon--white reading logs due tomorrow. LAD Fair Home Project directions given out today.  (These will be due on Thurs., Feb. 27th.)
Tues--BOOK TALK TOMORROW--Have book 100% finished!
Wed--no HW
Thur--no HW
Fri--be working on your LAD Fair home project

READING EXPLORATORY
We will be focusing on verbs this week and also thinking about activating prior knowledge before reading new informational text.

Week of Feb. 3-7

Hello!  This week the students will be writing their DBQ essays comparing knights to samurais.

Remember that all students are required to read at least 90 minutes a week outside of English class.
