REMINDER--Send in those field trip permission forms to the 7th period teacher. Our field trip to the Ozark Community Center will be on Friday, April 25th. Fun! Fun!
This week the students will be taking their end-of-the-year online reading test on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday we will review essay writing, and then on Thursday and Friday the students will be writing their end-of-the-year argument essays for district reporting.
HOMEWORK:
The students should be reading at home every day. There will be a new reading log distributed on Tuesday. (They did not have one last week.)

We will finish reading The Outsiders this week. In grammar, we will continue to focus on pronoun usage, and then move into contractions.

On Monday, students will be making corrections to their argument essays. On Tuesday, Mr. Petree will be in the room. Wednesday and Thursday, students will be working with three non-fiction sources related to fossils in the effort to formulate an opinion based on text evidence. There is no school for students on Friday.

Mon--Book Talk on Wednesday! Finish reading book at home--there will not be any class time to read before Wednesday. Finish essay corrections.
Tues--finish Book Talk book tonight! Book Talk is tomorrow!
Wed--have a new independent reading book.

Hello! This week the students will write and present radio commercials utilizing propaganda and persuasion techniques. Then on Wednesday, we will move on to "Exploring the Titanic" in the literature book.
IMPORTANT -- Band students will be gone on Wednesday for a field trip. They will be given a copy of "Exploring the Titanic" on Tuesday in class, and they will need to read it before coming back to class on Thursday. (Students who have English second period will also miss class on Tuesday for rehearsal. They will have a makeup assignment in lieu of presenting the commercials in class.)

Week of March 24-28
Hello! There is a Scholastic Book Fair happening in the library this week. Students may bring money to shop! Also, we are collecting gently-used books for the community book drive through the end of this week. Please go through your bookshelves and send in those preschool/children's/young adult books that your family won't be reading anymore. The students at Campbell and York elementaries will thank you!
We are continuing our media literacy unit this week focusing on propaganda/persuasion techniques. There will be a test on Friday.

Hello! An important announcement:
**Book Drive--Cherokee is collecting books to be given out at a community day at York and Campbell Elementary schools. We are collecting good used paperback and hardback books from now until Friday, March 28th. I know that many of our Cherokee students have had the benefit of owning lots of books, and we are hopeful that you all will choose to "share the bounty" and send in the books your child has outgrown. Anything from baby books to youth fiction is welcome and will be put to good use! Thank you so much for putting books into the hands of children who may not have them otherwise!
**Students will be continuing to read their argument essays aloud this week on Monday and Tuesday, and then on Wednesday we will have Mr. Petree in the room. Thursday we will begin our Media Literacy/Persuasion/Propaganda Unit.
Homework:
All students will be checking out a new Book Talk book on Monday. Book Talk will be on Wednesday, April 9th, and all students will need to have their books 100% read by that day.
